For almost 20 years I've practiced law, assisted numerous clients, both individual and corporate, navigate the legal rivers upon which we all journey. Like many attorneys, I've seen two general patterns of thought emerge (with countless variations in between) when it comes to the "Average Person's" view of hiring an attorney: some individuals and businesses are driven to bring-on an attorney on the front-end of a change in family circumstances, hiring a new employee, starting a business venture or taking a business in a new direction, and the like. Others either try to "wing it" or otherwise wait until a situation comes to a head, or deteriorates altogether, until it becomes apparent to them that engaging a lawyer as an ally, advocate and adviser is all but unavoidable.
There is no "right" or "wrong" to either of the above-described ways of looking at obtaining legal services, but many years experience has countless times shown me that preventing, or at least mitigating, a legal entanglement or morass is less stressful and less expensive than fixing one after it's tied an individual, family or business up in knots.
